On Monday, Montenegro had tried to target England players as they used some racial abuses. It was a qualifying match between Montenegro and England for Euro 2020. Gareth Southgate, who is England manager confirmed that he had heard monkey chants from Montenegro fans, which were mainly aimed at Danny Rose.
Also, Raheem Sterling was equally abused from the Podgorica crowd as revealed and hence, he has asked to take strict action against the culprits. He also said to ban the stadium where fans abuse the other players. He even cupped his ears towards the home supports after scoring for England. Another player named Hudson-Odoi was also targeted by Montenegro supporters.
This alleged behaviour mainly took place after England beat Montenegro with a 5-1 score. Southgate has even mentioned that at the end of the game when Danny Rose picked up the yellow card, he had heard the racial comments passed on Rose. He had henceforth added that England is going to file the report regarding the behaviour to UEFA, which is the governing body for European football.
Southgate wants to support the players and is all set to take the requisite steps. He believes that such an act has taken place and are completely unacceptable. He knows what happened with Rose and will confirm with Raheem regarding the behaviour.
On the other hand, UEFA has imposed several charges on Montenegro, of which one is the incident related to a racist act. They have started the investigation. On May 16 when the case is dealt, more severe punishments are expected.
